Pünktlich zum Ferienbeginn findet jedes Jahr das 1. Oldenburger Abendsportfest im Marschwegstadion statt. Mit dabei war auch Nils Papenfuß für die TSG Westerstede über 100 Meter und 1000 Meter Mittelstrecke.
Mit 12,58 Sekunden bei nur leichtem Rückenwind (+ 0,5 m) zeigte Nils trotz etwas verpatztem Start eine passable Leistung über den Sprint. Noch stärker präsentierte er sich dann kurz darauf über die Mittelstrecke: Vom Start weg war Nils in der Führungsgruppe zu finden und zog nach etwa 500 Meter noch einmal an, um die Geschwindigkeit hochzuhalten. Das Feld wurde zwangsläufig auseinander gezogen und nur zwei weitere Läufer konnten Schritt halten. Im Endspurt fehlten ihm dann konsquenterweise durch seine Führungsarbeit ein paar Körner, aber er überquerte in einer herausragenden Zeit von 2:46,56 Minuten die Ziellinie als Dritter. Mit dieser Zeit katapultierte Nils sich auf Platz 4 der aktuellen Niedersächsischen Bestenliste der U18!
